They're comfortable enough to wear for long gaming session but, unfortunately, have no software support for added customization options, unlike some of the other popular gaming headsets. Their design is also not the most breathable so your ears may get a little warm after gaming for a while.. Their wireless design gives you more freedom, they perform more consistently across different users, and they have more detail in the treble range. They also have a nice app that allows customization options. However, they can’t be used without their base, which is quite restrictive. The Cloud II mic also has a better recording quality and is fully detachable, making them a bit more outside-friendly than the Astro. The HyperX Cloud II and the HyperX Cloud Flight are both good gaming headphones, but their main difference is that the Cloud II is wired while the Flight is wireless. The Cloud II is also a bit better-built, thanks to a metal frame, and feel a bit more comfortable. On the other hand, the sound quality of the Flight is slightly better, although both perform quite differently on various users, so your experience may vary. Also, it’s important to note that when using the Flight wired to console controllers, you won’t have microphone support, and the USB dongle doesn’t work on Xbox One. This makes the Cloud II a more versatile option. I just bought the HyperX Cloud II for 79US$ and all I can tell you is that it's a pretty fantastic headset in that price range. The opening guitar notes get plenty of resonance and string texture, and the electric bass sounds punchy and full when it kicks in. The guitar strums and snare hits have presence in the mix without overwhelming any other element, and the vocals come through clearly. This is an admirably balanced sound, with good range and finesse in the higher frequencies.
Getting a good fit with the Cloud Mix is fairly easy. And comfort is a plus at first. The headband cushion is excellent, though its clamping force was a bit noticeable. The lightweight 9.1oz (0.26kg) headset and the thick headband cushion prevent any noticeable stress on the crown of our head, usually one of the worst offenders for single-band designs like this. For Bluetooth mode, there are power and volume controls on right ear cup and a playback/assistant button on the left.If wanting to apply an EQ for the HyperX Cloud II, it has to be applied accurately or you will highly degrade their mids and introduce boxy vocals or harsh peaks. If done carefully and applying a subtle dB increment in the 400Hz to 1200Hz and a firm reduction in the +/- 3000Hz frequencies, their vocals will sound clearer and overall fresher and much less sibilant but remember that a minimal overemphasized or under-emphasized EQ mistake will make them sound very off.Bluetooth works without much fuss. The AptX codec provides really clear sound. The treble response is decently consistent, with some minor peaks/dips around 4KHz which shouldn't be terribly noticeably. The bass delivery is also quite consistent, as long as the user is getting a proper fit/seal with them. Aside from the HyperX logo on each earcup (which are thankfully not red), the Cloud Mix headset doesn’t shout to the world that it’s a gaming headset. This is especially true if you opt for the Rose Gold model that HyperX launched in October. The pink and white design with a light pink HyperX logo looks amazing, and is a massive improvement over the original model. Nothing else changes, though. Our teammates never struggle to make out what we’re saying. Unless, of course, they’re in a building being bombarded by an enemy artillery strike. The only downside is the lack of mic pass-through, as it can be easy to start shouting without being able to hear yourself talk. The Cloud Mix is designed to connect to mobile devices over Bluetooth on the go, but it's intended as a wired headset for gaming. For that purpose, the headset includes two 3.5mm cables. One is a five-foot male-male cable that terminates in a single four-pole connector, with an inline remote with a volume wheel and a microphone mute switch. The other is a five-foot female-male extender cable that terminates in two three-prong plugs, providing a full 10 feet of wire for connecting to your computer. Every major game console has a four-pole 3.5mm headset jack either on the system itself (the Nintendo Switch) or its controllers (the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One), while the extension cable supports any PC with separate headphone and microphone jacks.
Bluetooth makes the headset sound much fuzzier because it doesn't use the boom mic at all; instead, the headset switched to a pinhole mic located in the left earcup for Bluetooth calls. My voice was still able to be heard, but it wasn't nearly as crisp or clean as it sounded over the boom mic and a 3.5mm cable. It's a shame the Cloud Mix can't switch to using the boom for voice calls over Bluetooth when the microphone is plugged in, because it sounds so much better. The HyperX Cloud II is a better gaming headset than the Razer Kraken Pro V2. The Cloud II is one of the better-built and most comfortable gaming headsets we’ve reviewed so far. The Cloud Mix is designed to be used as a pair of Bluetooth headphones as much as it is a gaming headset, and it's quite capable in that role. The audio clarity doesn't seem to drop at all when switching between wired and Bluetooth connections, unlike the microphones. We put the Kingston HyperX Cloud II through our standardized extreme bass / basshead tests and they handled up to 30% of the maximum power of a Fiio E12 Mont Blanc while being set to high gain, bass boost turned on and applying a customized basshead EQ. The results were a huge increment of mid-bass punch and sub-bass depth that reached a subtle basshead rumble and impact, that was very far from what the Beats Solo2 achieved. At the beginning of the tests the Kingston HyperX Cloud II seemed to had a possibly very high maximum power handling but by getting just slightly above 30% of Fiio E12’s power the right driver crackled, almost blowing up – consider that our tests push the headphones to their limits.🎧 We are reviewing the Kingston HyperX Cloud II, an award-winning gaming headset with a plethora of useful accessories. The headphones have a decent control scheme, especially for gaming. They have a dedicated inline remote cable with a USB connection that gives you control over the volume and mic level, as well as a surround sound button to activate Dolby 7.1. They also have a mute switch on the side of the inline remote to completely disable the mic. The buttons are decently responsive although a little flat. They also take a bit of time to get familiar with, but they're relatively easy-to-use. Unfortunately, the control scheme is not as versatile since it doesn't cater to mobile devices, which is a little disappointing since the headphones can also pass for casual everyday headphones. For a more straightforward headset without controls, take a look at the HyperX Cloud Core. The Cloud Alpha is $99, and it's the direct follow-up to the Cloud II. The design and sound quality offer some decent value for shoppers, but there’s still a few things that don’t make sense about the HyperX Cloud Mix, and they largely come down to the trade-offs of making it a Bluetooth, on-the-go headset and a wired gaming headset all at the same time.
